It's official: muffin top is a word, whether you or like it or not

Muffin tops rank right up there with cellulite as a battleground on women's bodies.

Now it's also an official word in the Oxford English Dictionary. Defined thus, as "a protuberance of flesh above the waistband of a tight pair of trousers."

Unfortunately.

You can't spell and neither can your smartphone

Do you have a love/hate relationship with the autocorrect feature on your phone? Ever hit "send" and then notice that it changed one of the words you typed to something else? Something stupid, There's a website for that (big surprise).

This article by NPR highlights some of the more interesting autocorrected texts posted on the site called damnyouautocorrect.com.

Good for a few laughs. And a reminder to double check your texts before sending.

Google's Book Scanning Project: Research Tool?

NPR reports on Google's new searchable database made up of of 500 billion words. Google's project has been controversial because it involved scanning 5 million books, many still covered by copyright. Google got around that by using the text from these works as a collection of words and phrases removed from their context other than date.

Scholars are using it to show trends in language. And I can think of many authors who will love being able to research the evolution of slang and idioms.

These are magnetic words on my refrigerator. I was playing around with them and thought it looked kind of neat. And would be rather ironic for Wordless Wednesday. Yeah, me and my warped sense of humor.
