Calvin Grows Up?

You would have had to been reading this blog for a long time to realize how much I love Calvin and Hobbes. I also call my son Calvin on this blog, for reasons that may or may not be obvious. He basically is Calvin. See these posts for proof:

Peace on Earth?
Heard in the Hall
Day Two
Best Laid Plans and All That

I have the Complete Calvin and Hobbes Collection (and man is that heavy!), so I was curious to see what was up when I saw this post on NPR. Not bad, but it's probably better to preserve the mystique by not going there too often. Still, it felt a bit like visiting an old friend. Guess it's time to revisit the Complete Collection again.

Humor as Procrastination

I love humor. I love good comedians. It's hard to find ones that are clean, however. But we've found a few. YouTube has been wonderful in this regard.

And since I'm procrastinating instead of writing (what is it about telling me I have to write 50k this month that makes me want to do anything but?) I followed Lynn Rush's link to Tim Hawkins and found this. Which I particularly appreciate having been a big fan of Dr. Demento, Weird Al, and parody in general.

Enjoy. But don't expect to be able to sing in church again without suppressing a smirk. Some of the songs I think he actually improved.

Saturday Funnies

A couple of things to make you laugh.

I'm taking a time out from my crazy packing to peruse Facebook and share with you some of the fun stuff I've found there. If you're not on Facebook yet, what are you waiting for? It's the best way to connect with friends old and new.

This first one is from my friend and writer buddy Diana Brandmeyer (who's also kind enough to let me and the kids crash at her place while we find a place of our own in St. Louis).

I've actually pulled that on my kids--at home, not in the store. It's pretty effective.

And this hysterical tidbit from the awesome writer's resource site Novel Journey

I love the idea of embracing your criticism and making something creative with it. Kind of the video version of papering your walls with rejection letters.

On a personal note, this is our last week in Indiana. I've loved being a Hoosier; now we're checking out the Show Me State. St. Louis is the Gateway to the West. I'm sure I'll find plenty there to spark my imagination on this crazy journey called life.

Stay tuned.

If you have a warped sense of humor, you might like this.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I've been MIA. I have a good excuse. Two actually. Lyme Disease (both me and my daughter) and I'm moving.

But more on that later. For now I wanted to share with you a link from a new blog discovery. Check out Kem Meyer's blog, Less Clutter, Less Noise for a fresh take on church, life, and just getting along in this world. The post I linked to above is hilarious. Ah, a fellow warped soul. :)

And I promise I'll talk about the move soon. If I can find my computer amongst the packing boxes...

Laughter as Carbonated Holiness

That line comes from this Christianity Today article. It also contains this gem:
...laughter is the Elmer's Glue that attaches us to the goodness that inhabits this world, and to the gladness that hints at the world to come.

I found the article particularly timely after one of my favorite young people said last night, "Jennifer loves to laugh." Yeah, I do. And I have a lot to laugh about, thank You, Jesus.

Anything made you laugh lately? Share, because you can never have too much laughter.

Quotable Quotes

I think credit for this grammarial gem of a blog goes to Neil Gaiman. But heck, I've had it in my file so long I can't be sure. However, it's funny and worth sharing if you're fond of words and grammar.

Or even if you're not. Reminded me a little of the Chris Farley SNL character who kept making quote marks in the air with his fingers and telling the kids they were going to live in a van down by the river. Is there a law against abusing punctuation marks?

Check it out.

And tomorrow, maybe I'll tell you why Santa got sentenced to the lava pit. Never a dull moment around my house.

A Laugh for Thursday

If you want to had a little humor to your day, check out two of my Misfit friends. Having a wacko sense of humor is definitely a requirement to be a Misfit.

Heather's blog about the frustration of writing.

Mike's interesting interview. And don't forget to vote.

And, here's a warning. Keep your coffee or beverage of choice far from your computer when you're at these sites. Oh my.
